The 2016 Ardante Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot. Â The source for this wine is from Yates Family Vineyard, up near the top of Mount Veeder. Showing mountain fruit characteristics, this wine is deep purple/ruby in color, with black fruits filling up the nose. Full-bodied, scores of blackberries, and black cherry flavors with a nice spice box base. A bit of patience on this wine, as a few years of aging will tame the tannic edge that drapes the mouth-coating fresh black fruits.
Harvest Notes
Heading into the fourth year of a prolonged drought, we had a warm, dry winter, which led to an early bud break in 2016. The growing season stayed ahead of normal through the entire season with no measurable rainfall until mid-October, which slowed things down. Hanging above the fog line most of the season, the vines remained healthy and dry. Lots of loose clusters with small berries showing a richness in the thick skins. The fruit was harvested early in the morning on October 10th.
