Winemaker Notes

The 2021 Jovana Mt Veeder Merlot/Cabernet Franc is a blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Franc, All the fruit came from Yates Family Vineyard, high upon Mt Veeder. Showing dark ruby color, fresh blueberries, black cherries, and cedar notes leap from the glass. The inviting nose is followed with a broad, juicy mid-palate that is kept in check with a fresh, clean finish. Very pleasing now but will show even better with two to four years of cellaring.

Harvest Notes

The 2021 growing season started early with bud break occurring about a week earlier than average. With a shortage of winter rains, we experienced another drought year, with rain totals about 60 percent of normal. Luckily, we didn’t see much in the way of heat spikes, so the fruit ripened at a consistent pace. The fruit was harvested at night on September 29th and October 6th.
