Winemaker Notes

The 2022 Jovana Mt Veeder Merlot/Cabernet Franc is a blend of 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Merlot, with all the fruit came from Yates Family Vineyard, high upon Mt Veeder. This is the first vintage where the Cabernet Franc shown above the Merlot. Showing dark ruby color, fresh blueberries, black cherries, and cedar notes leap from the glass. The inviting nose is followed with a broad, juicy mid-palate that is kept in check with a fresh, clean finish. Very pleasing now but will show even better with two to four years of cellaring.

Harvest Notes

The 2022 growing season started early with bud break occurring about a week earlier than average. We experienced a normal rainfall, allowing the vines to grow without excessive watering. Very few heat spikes occurred during the warm, but pleasant summer, leading to a harvest that occurred about a week earlier than normail. The fruit was harvested at night on September 22nd and October 4th.
