The 2021 parched. Cabernet Sauvignon is a Bordeaux blend consisting of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The fruit for this wine is sourced throughout the Napa Valley with a good mix of mountain fruit along with valley floor fruit. The wine exhibits a dark, inky red color, with notes of black berry and cassis on the nose. Layered well with spice and toasty oak, this medium to full bodied wine will be quite pleasant from the start but will reward short term cellaring.
The 2021 growing season started early with bud break occurring about a week earlier than average. With a shortage of winter rains, we experienced another drought year, with rain totals about 60 percent of normal. Luckily, we didn’t see much in the way of heat spikes, so the fruit ripened at a consistent pace. The fruit was harvested at night between September 15th October 26th.
