Winemaker Notes

The 2023 The Cairn Pinot Noir is a single-vineyard wine sourced from Catie's Corner Vineyard in the Russian River Valley. The must was fermented with 15% whole cluster, adding extra mouthfeel and a touch of spiciness. The wine was aged on the lees with monthly stirring in 40% new French oak. The 2023 vintage presents vibrant dark red cherry aromas, complemented by a tantalizing spiciness on the palate. Richer than previous years, this wine will continue to evolve with a few years of bottle aging.

Harvest Notes

The 2023 growing season was a sharp contrast to 2022. The typical spring and summer heat never fully developed, and while the vines remained healthy, they were slower to mature. As a result, we were about two weeks behind the usual schedule. However, the weather during harvest was ideal. With a late bud break and consistent growing conditions, the fruit reached full maturity and was harvested overnight on September 19th.
