Winemaker Notes

The 2020 Vitrai Merlot is one of the newest wines in our portfolio and is 96% Merlot, blended with 4% Cabernet Sauvignon. Showing a ruby red color that covers from rim to rim, notes of black cherry, and plum are intertwined with leather and hints of lavender. While this is a mountain fruit based wine, the tannins are in balance, not overpowering this wine. Medium bodied, with blueberry and black cherry flavors, perfectly blanketed in a layer of tannin, it’s hard to not just drink this wine immediately. Aging this wine for a couple of years will reward you, but it’s just so good in the glass right now.

Harvest Notes

The 2020 growing season went from hope and excitement, to literally crash and burn. Timing was everything with the 2020 harvest. When budbreak occurred around the end of February, we were blessed with warm days and clear skies. The growing season was moving along perfectly until the first of two fires hit the Napa Valley. Vineyards in the eastern part of Napa were most affected. Luckily we were able to harvest this fruit from Mt Veeder, on September 24th, before the second fire would affect the vines.
