Winemaker Notes

The 2021 Vitrai Merlot is a Merlot based wine which is comprised of 92% Merlot, blended with 8% Cabernet Franc. With a bit darker color, showing off its roots from Mt Veeder, this wine shows notes of black cherry, and plum are intertwined with leather and hints of lavender. While this is a mountain fruit based wine, the tannins are in balance, not overpowering this wine. Medium bodied, with blueberry and black cherry flavors, perfectly blanketed in a layer of tannin, it’s hard to not just drink this wine immediately. Aging this wine for a couple of years will reward you, but it’s just so good in the glass right now.

Harvest Notes

The 2021 growing season started early with bud break occurring about a week earlier than average. With a shortage of winter rains, we experienced another drought year, with rain totals about 60 percent of normal. Luckily, we didn’t see much in the way of heat spikes, so the fruit ripened at a consistent pace. The fruit was harvested at night on September 29th.
